Can you over-cure plastisol ink?Updated 2 years ago

It's difficult to actually over-cure plastisol ink, but it is easy to get the ink hotter than is needed. If you overheat an ink, you may notice one of few things:

  • If you heat up the ink too hot, over time, the ink will become brittle. Although, you will see the shirt scorch or burn long before the ink becomes brittle.
  • With some inks, overheating the ink will result in micro bubbles breaking up the ink surface — almost looking frothy. The hotter it gets, the more it bubbles.
  • Other inks will get very glossy. While gloss on a cured ink is a fairly normal thing, it quickly becomes obvious when the inks are too hot as it starts to look almost glassy.
