When your freight order or equipment arrives, it is extremely important that someone from your team is available to thoroughly inspect the shipment before signing the Bill of Lading (BOL).

Please take the time to:

• Photograph the shipment before and after opening the packaging or crate
• Carefully inspect all sides of the equipment and packaging
• Document any damage, no matter how minor it may seem
• Ensure all damages are clearly noted on the BOL before signing

You’ve invested in a valuable piece of equipment, and taking a few extra minutes during delivery can help protect that investment and ensure any shipping-related issues are properly addressed.

Do not sign the BOL until the shipment has been fully inspected. By signing the BOL without noting any damage, you are acknowledging that the equipment was received in good condition. If damage is discovered after the delivery is accepted, it can become much more difficult to file a claim or hold the carrier responsible.

Freight drivers are often working under strict schedules and may encourage you to sign quickly. However, the inspection process is your responsibility and your protection. Take the time you need to examine the shipment thoroughly, even if the driver is waiting. The carrier cannot leave until the BOL has been signed, and ensuring your equipment arrives safely is worth those extra few minutes.
