What's a lift gate and do I need one?Updated 19 hours ago

A lift gate is a hydraulic platform attached to the back of a freight truck that helps safely lower large or heavy shipments from the truck to ground level. It is especially useful for deliveries to locations that do not have a loading dock or forklift available.

When a truck arrives, the driver uses the lift gate to lower the shipment from the truck bed down to the pavement, allowing the recipient to move the item from the delivery area without needing additional loading equipment.

A lift gate service is recommended if you:

  • Do not have a loading dock
  • Do not have access to a forklift or pallet jack
  • Are having your order delivered to a residential area
  • Are receiving large, heavy, or palletized freight (most of our equipment)
  • Need assistance getting the shipment safely off the truck

Please note that lift gate service only helps with getting the shipment off the truck and onto the ground. The carrier driver is not responsible for moving the shipment inside your building or transporting it beyond the delivery area. You will still need to have a plan in place to move the item from the drop-off location to its final destination.

If you are unsure whether you need lift gate service for your order, please contact our team and we’ll be happy to help you determine the best delivery option.
